⚖️Concentration

For the Chlorine Dioxide Kit lock top dropper, 1 drop of the solution added to 1 litre of water results in a Chlorine Dioxide concentration of 1.77 parts per million (ppm). The EU DWGL 98/83 sets the limit for Chlorine Dioxide water purification application at 0.2 ppm minimum, and the EPA's highest allowed Chlorine Dioxide concentration is 0.8 ppm. This indicates that the ideal Chlorine Dioxide concentration in water for purification should be within the range of 0.2 to 0.8 ppm. This is why you add 1 to 2 drops per 1 litre of water. 📏What is 28% Sodium Chlorite?

A 28% Sodium Chlorite solution is equivalent in concentration to a 22.4% Sodium Chlorite solution. This discrepancy arises because Sodium Chlorite is typically produced from 80% Sodium Chlorite flakes. While some may label it as a 28% Chlorite solution, this is based on the assumption that the flakes are 100% Sodium Chlorite. In reality, only 80% of the flakes are Sodium Chlorite, while the remaining 20% consists of inert salts and other fillers, which are sometimes mistakenly included in the Sodium Chlorite count. Thus, the actual concentration derived from 80% Sodium Chlorite flakes is 22.4%.

⚗️Chlorine Dioxide Kit Activation

To prepare a Chlorine Dioxide Solution, carefully read and follow the safety instructions on the bottle before activating it in a well-ventilated area while wearing safety gear.

🦺Safety First

It's important to follow safety precautions when working with potentially harmful substances, such as Chlorine Dioxide, Sodium Chlorite, Hydrochloric Acid, and Citric Acid. The importance of these precautions increases with the amount of activated CDS.

1. 🫁 Ventilation

Avoid inhaling Chlorine Dioxide Gas during activation, as it emits a potent chlorine-like odour that can be harmful to your lungs. Always work outside or in a well-ventilated area, and consider using a chemical-filtering mask to minimize exposure. If you detect a strong chlorine smell, leave the area immediately.

2. 🥽 Safety Glasses

Chlorine Dioxide Gas, Chlorine Dioxide Solution, and Chlorine Dioxide Kits can irritate or harm the eyes. To protect your eyes, it is advisable to wear safety goggles when handling Chlorine Dioxide and Chlorine Dioxide Kits, especially during activation, as this is when the most gas or fumes are released.

3. 🧤 Protective Gloves

Chlorine Dioxide Solution and Chlorine Dioxide Kit, especially at high levels during Kit activation, can cause skin corrosion and skin irritation. To protect your hands, it is advisable to use chemical-resistant gloves, such as those made from rubber or nitrile.

🏁Ready to Activate your Chlorine Dioxide Kit

Now that we have taken the necessary safety precautions, we are prepared to begin. Please get a clean glass, plastic or ceramic container to activate the Chlorine Dioxide Kit. Find out how many drops you will need before mixing.

1. ⚖️ Mixing

Combine 1 drop of PART A, which is 22.4% or 25% Sodium Chlorite, with 1 drop of PART B, either 4% Hydrochloric Acid or 50% Citric Acid, in a clean container. The ideal ratio for activation is 1:1, signifying that you should mix equal parts of each component.

2. ⌛ Time

After adding the drops, allow 30 - 50 seconds for the solution to activate. You'll notice it's activated when the colour stabilizes. With just a few drops, the solution changes from clear to yellow. The more drops you add, it will turn into a darker amber hue, especially beyond 2 mL. The distinct chlorine-like smell is another indicator that it's actively working.

3. 🔬 Activation

You now have an active chlorine dioxide solution.

💦Purify Water with Activated Chlorine Dioxide Kit

For your safety, it's essential to thoroughly read all the instructions provided on the bottle, above under Section "⚗️Chlorine Dioxide KIT Activation" and below in this section before starting.

🫗Filtration

For suspended matter in your water, strain it through a filter or cheesecloth before adding the drops. If you notice the water is cloudy after the drops are added, be sure to filter it and purify it again. This is important to ensure that the Chlorine Dioxide effectively purifies the water from pathogens and doesn't just oxidize the dirt.

🍶Dilution

If one Chlorine Dioxide Kit drop is too strong, dilute it with water. A single drop of 0.05 mL activated Sodium Chlorite in 1 litre of water yields a 1.98 mg solution. Dilute the drop with 100 mL of water. You can then half the potency by taking away, for example, half or 50 mL of water. However, keep in mind that diluted solutions maintain their effectiveness for a shorter duration, typically about a day, especially when left unsealed and exposed to light. Therefore, it's advisable to use it promptly if possible.

🚰How to Purify Water with an Activated Chlorine Dioxide Kit

Now that you have your activated solution from the Chlorine Dioxide Kit, you can add it to the water.

1. 💧 Add Activated Drops

Add 1 to 2 drops of activated solution for every 4 liters of water. Adjust the quantity based on the water's impurity level.

2. ⏱️ Contact Time

After adding the drops, shake or stir the water thoroughly and let it sit for 30 to 50 minutes. The necessary contact time may vary based on the water's contamination level.

3. 🌊 Purified Water

Your water is now pathogen-free and safe to drink after the 30 to 50 minute contact time.

📐Conversion of Chlorine Dioxide Kit to Pure Chlorine Dioxide Solution 3000 PPM

⚖ 11 mL of Pure CDS 3000 PPM is equivalent to 1 mL of activated Chlorine Dioxide Kit, making it 11 times stronger.

💪 Upon activation, 1 mL of Sodium Chlorite from our Chlorine Dioxide Kit has been verified to generate approximately 33,000 ppm of Chlorine Dioxide, whereas Pure CDS 3000 PPM is 3000 ppm. It's important to note that with the Chlorine Dioxide Kit, this will be a total of 2 mL, as 1 mL of Part B is added to activate.

📦Storage Instructions for Chlorine Dioxide Kits

For long-lasting product effectiveness, adhere to these guidelines.

🆒 Store the product in a cool place, as prolonged exposure to excessive heat can degrade its quality. If your home temperature exceeds 25°C (77°F), consider refrigeration. Refrigeration may also extend its shelf life.

💡 Store it in a cool, dry, and dark place, as exposure to light will have an impact on shelf life. A cupboard would be an ideal location.

🔄 Keep the product out of reach of children and pets.

📆 When stored correctly, it maintains full strength for 1 to 2 years from the date received. It remains effective beyond this period, but you may need to use larger quantities, and it's advisable to conduct testing for exact parts per million (ppm). You can evaluate its effectiveness by noticing the colour change from yellow to clear (indicating inactivity) and the scent of chlorine when activated.
